Why KDP uploads fail for children's books
Amazon KDP is the most accessible self-publishing platform, but it has strict technical requirements for colour print books. The most common reasons children's book uploads are rejected or produce poor print results:
Missing bleed
Full-bleed artwork must extend beyond the trimmed edges according to the current interior template. For paperback interiors, check top, bottom, and outside-edge bleed separately from the binding edge.
Text outside safe margins
Keep text and critical artwork inside the required margins. Gutter requirements depend on page count; content too close to an edge can be trimmed or difficult to read.
Unexpected print colour
Screen colours can differ from ink on paper. Follow KDP's current colour guidance and inspect a physical proof rather than relying only on the screen preview.
Low resolution images
KDP requires illustrations at 300 DPI minimum at print size. Low-res images appear soft or pixelated on the physical book.

Set the PDF dimensions for the selected trim size and bleed option. A full-bleed interior needs larger page dimensions than the final trimmed page.
